This page is a work in progress. The moment I start using a new tool, application or otherwise interesting device, I will share it on this page. At this moment I am filling the tabs with applications I already use. Still haven’t finished with that.
The tools I plan on using
With Zotero I collect and categorize the scientific papers I read. Not only for my research but also for the work I do on modeling the anatomy of the animals.
ZBrush is a digital clay application and I can’t do my work without it. I’ve been working with ZBrush since 2005 and I still find new and more efficient ways to work with it.
Pixologic, who developed ZBrush is now part of Maxon. Most of the time such a takeover is bad, but Maxon actually improved ZBrush a lot. Especially the fact that I’m now able to work on an Ipad with ZBrush.
I think everybody knows Blender. The 3d application is perfect for combining the models I make in ZBrush with meta-data. And I can make animations with it of course.
If I want to make a realistic visualization, one that almost can’t be distinguished from real life, I use Marmoset Toolbag. It has a low threshold regarding learning how to use it, and the result is always fabulous.
With Substance Painter I make materials for the models. Not everything, because a lot of work can also be done in ZBrush, but if I want to get textures I can rely on to give the effect I want to make in a short amount of time I use Substance Painter.
3d pdf’s could be a great tool to be used by researchers. It can be viewed offline and you can add all kinds of data to it. But Adobe decided it’s not worth it. once available, now a few application make it possible to generate them. SimLab Composer is affordable one. I mainly will use it for reviewers.
